Overview of Certification Requirements for Silicon Steel Imports
India
BIS Mandatory Certification: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has expanded certification coverage for steel imports to prevent low-quality dumping. Silicon steel imports may require BIS approval before entering the market.
United States
Chemical Composition Report: Under 19 CFR 141.89, imported iron or steel (including silicon steel) must be accompanied by a mill analysis or mill test certificate indicating the percentage of carbon and alloying elements.
Import Licensing: Under 19 CFR 360.101, bulk steel products, including silicon steel, require an import license. The license number must be declared at entry.
Tariff and Quota Policy: Steel imports are subject to Section 232 tariffs and quota restrictions.
European Union
No silicon-steel-specific certification, but if used in electrical equipment (e.g., motors, transformers), compliance with CE marking, Low Voltage Directive (LVD), or ErP efficiency regulations may be required.
China
CCC Mandatory Certification: China Compulsory Certification (CCC) applies mainly to finished products such as wires, motors, and electrical equipment. If silicon steel is used in such equipment, CCC requirements may indirectly apply.
Inspection & Quarantine: China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC) offers inspection, testing, and certification services for import/export compliance.
Russia
While no specific standard for silicon steel was found, steel products generally fall under the GOST R certification system.
Nigeria
Steel products may require SONCAP (Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program) certification to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
