Function of Transformer Moisture Absorber

The core function of a transformer moisture absorber is to filter and dry the air entering the transformer, preventing moisture from entering and causing a decrease in insulation performance.

The Three Core Functions of Moisture Absorbers

Moisture proof and dehumidification: When the oil temperature of the transformer changes and causes the volume of air inside the oil pillow to expand or contract, external air will enter and exit through the moisture absorber. The desiccant (usually silicone) inside the moisture absorber will absorb moisture from the air and keep the air entering the oil pillow dry.

Filtering impurities: In addition to moisture, the moisture absorber can also filter out dust, particles, and other impurities in the air, preventing these impurities from entering the oil pillow and contaminating the transformer oil.

Indication status: The desiccant will change color according to the degree of moisture absorption, such as from blue to pink, which can intuitively indicate to the staff that the desiccant has been dampened and needs to be replaced or regenerated in a timely manner to ensure the continuous effectiveness of moisture absorption function.
