Transformer Radiator (Oil-cooled Radiator)
Transformer radiator is a core cooling component for oil-immersed transformers. It dissipates heat generated by copper loss and iron loss in windings and iron cores, prevents overheating and aging of insulating oil and insulating materials, and ensures the long-term safe operation of transformers.
Core Principle
Hot oil flows into the radiator through natural convection by temperature difference (ONAN) or forced circulation by oil pump (OFAF), and the heat dissipation area is increased through fins / tube bundles.Heat is conducted through the metal wall to the outer surface and removed by natural air convection or forced air cooling with fans. The cooled oil flows back to the oil tank, forming a closed-loop circulation.
Main Types & Applications
ONAN (Oil-immersed Natural Cooling): Simple structure, maintenance-free, suitable for small and medium-sized transformers.
ONAF (Oil-immersed Air Cooling): Equipped with temperature-controlled fans, greatly improved heat dissipation capacity, suitable for medium and large transformers and load fluctuation scenarios.
OFAF / OFWF (Forced Oil Air / Water Cooling): Equipped with oil pumps + fans / water heat exchangers, used for large power station transformers and high ambient temperature conditions.
Key Features
Mostly made of carbon steel / aluminum; extremely high requirements for sealing and leakage prevention. The heat dissipation area and cooling mode must be accurately matched according to the transformer capacity, loss and ambient temperature.
