Transformer crepe paper

Transformer crepe paper is a critical insulating material used inside oil-immersed transformers, made from pure wood pulp through a creping process. Its core value lies in its role as the foundation of modern transformer insulation systems, working in conjunction with transformer oil. Its functions are primarily manifested in four aspects:


**1. Core Insulation:**

It serves as the ‘isolation layer’ between conductors. Directly wrapped around the winding conductors, it plays a crucial role in preventing interturn short circuits (within the same winding) and acting as the primary insulation between different windings. Its exceptional electrical strength is significantly enhanced when immersed in transformer oil, enabling it to effectively withstand high voltages and overvoltage surges.


**2. Structural Reinforcement:**

The crimping process endows it with unique flexibility and elasticity, akin to a spring. This allows it to closely conform to the conductors during wrapping, especially at bends without cracking, providing excellent tensile strength and mechanical protection capabilities, adapting to rigorous manufacturing processes and operating environments.


**3. Efficient Heat Dissipation:**

The wrinkled surface structure naturally forms microscopic channels (oil passages) within the windings, creating a smooth circulation path for transformer oil. Hot oil can carry away heat through convection, ensuring timely dissipation of heat from the windings and preventing insulation degradation due to overheating.


**4. Optimised Impregnation:**

Its porous and wrinkled characteristics enable it to be quickly and thoroughly impregnated with transformer oil. This ensures perfect integration between solid insulation (paper) and liquid insulation (oil), eliminating air pockets and preventing partial discharge, thereby safeguarding the integrity and reliability of the entire insulation system.


In summary, transformer crepe paper is far more than just a simple sheet of paper; it is a critical material that integrates insulation, structural support, and heat dissipation functions, playing an indispensable role in ensuring the safe, stable, and long-term operation of transformers.
