Butterfly valve

Butterfly valve is a type of shut-off/regulating valve with a simple structure and easy operation. Its core function is to drive the valve plate (disc-shaped) to rotate (0 ° -90 °) inside the valve body through the valve stem, achieving on/off control and flow regulation of pipeline media. It is widely used in various fluid systems such as water, steam, gas, oil, and slurry. Its specific functions can be divided into the following core scenarios, which are explained in combination with structural characteristics and application advantages:

1、 Core function: on-off control (the most important function)

The basic function of butterfly valve is to act as a "pipeline switch", controlling the flow and cutting off of the medium:

Fully open state: The valve plate rotates parallel to the pipeline axis (0 °), and the valve plate does not block the flow channel at all. The medium can pass through without obstruction, and the flow resistance is extremely low (far lower than gate valves and globe valves), suitable for normal medium transportation in large-diameter pipelines (such as urban water supply and drainage, industrial circulating water pipelines).

Fully closed state: The valve plate rotates to be perpendicular to the pipeline axis (90 °), and the valve plate tightly adheres to the valve seat (sealing surface), blocking the flow of the medium and achieving sealing cut-off (the sealing performance can meet the requirements of ordinary sealing or zero leakage depending on the material of the valve seat).

Advantages: Fast switching speed (only need to rotate 90 ° to complete the switch), easy operation (small force bearing area of valve plate, convenient manual/electric/pneumatic drive), especially suitable for large-diameter pipelines (DN50-DN4000+), lighter and lower cost compared to gate valves and globe valves.
