The core function of transformer oil drain valve is to achieve controllable discharge, filling and related operation and maintenance of transformer oil. It is a key hydraulic control accessory on the transformer oil tank, mainly installed at the bottom or lower side of the tank, adapted to the operating characteristics of transformer oil as insulation and cooling medium. All operations need to be carried out in accordance with safety regulations such as transformer power outage and pressure relief. The specific functions are divided into two categories: core practical functions and auxiliary operation and maintenance functions. The details are as follows:

1、 Core Practical Function (Main Purpose)

Transformer oil replacement and discharge

Long term use of transformer oil can lead to a decrease in insulation and cooling performance due to oxidation, moisture, and impurities. Regular full or partial replacement is required. The oil drain valve, as the only controllable oil discharge channel, can quickly and thoroughly drain the deteriorated transformer oil in the oil tank, avoiding residual effects on the performance of new oil.

Supplement and add transformer oil

In daily operation, transformer oil may experience low oil level due to slight leakage and temperature changes. Some oil release valves are designed with bidirectional diameter, which can be connected in reverse to the oil injection equipment to achieve vacuum filling or atmospheric pressure replenishment of transformer oil, replacing a separate oil injection port and simplifying the operation process.

Oil tank maintenance and drainage

When the internal parts of the transformer (such as windings, iron cores, tap changers) or the oil tank body need to be repaired, maintained, or replaced with accessories, all transformer oil in the oil tank should be drained through the oil drain valve, allowing the maintenance operation to be carried out in an oil-free and dry environment, avoiding oil pollution and potential safety hazards.
